Selected by Sir Martin Conway (formerly Slade Professor of Fine Arts) and Sir Charles J. Holmes (former Director of the National Gallery London). Edited by Sir John Alexander Hammerton, one of the most successful creators of large-scale works of reference. He also contributed to Mee's 'Children's Encyclopaedia' and his greatest achievement is arguably 'Harmsworth's Universal Encyclopaedia&apos. This work is complete in two volumes. The first volume contains 144 mezzogravures and 12 colour plates, as well as critical notes on the artwork. The second volume also contains 144 messogravures and 12 colour plates, with critical notes on the artwork. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding, with gilt lettering to the front boards and spines. Externally, smart, with bumping to extremities as well as to the head and tail of the spines. Some sunning to the spines. A few marks to the boards and spines as well. Internally, hinges are slightly strained but remain firm. Books are firmly bound. Scattered spotting to the pastedowns and free-endpapers, but otherwise pages and bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: Various. Very Good .
